Flight Information on Kathmandu and Lukla- the Everest High Passes Trekking:

For Everest Base Camp Gokyo Lake Trekking, initially, there are flights from Kathmandu to Lukla in the morning. Operated by domestic airlines, small planes like Twin Otter and Dornier are being scheduled every morning or chartered as required. Lukla Airport, a.k.a. Tenzing Hillary Airport (LUA) is another small domestic airport at 2860m, the only port of entry to the Everest region for the fixed wings. The airport has very limited facilities unlike in other airports in the country. Due to the restricted geographical, mountainous weather conditions and/or limited airport facilities, flights are prone to be delayed or canceled. If the condition persists to stay additional nights in Lukla while on any of the trekking packages, the trekkers are required to buy and an extra day for the accommodation and food, which can definitely be paid in Kathmandu or Lukla.

If in case Kathmandu airport is closed or delayed due to heavy air traffic conditions and your trip schedule is tight, there is another option as well. We can drive from Kathmandu to Ramachhap from where flights are scheduled for Lukla. The Ramechhap airport is located 130KM east of Kathmandu and takes approximately 4 hours of driving.

If you want to avoid a flight from/ to Ramechhap to Lukla to Ramechhap, then another alternate choice is Charter the Helicopter for five people. Generally, Helicopter charge is around USD500.00 per person for one way. Helicopter charter service isn't guaranteed, as it requires earlier confirmation due to their tight schedule. If you confirm for this reason, or for the Everest High Passes Trekking or other Everest trekking packages via Helicopter, we'll initially coordinate with the Helicopter company for your charter flight and get everything ready for your easy and comfortable transportation.
